Frequently asked questions

How does ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ perform in salt spray testing?

⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ passes 15,000+ hours in salt spray testing per ASTM B117, which is 3-5 times the industry standard. This is equivalent to more than 20 years of exposure in an extreme marine environment. The product is DNV certified for use in marine and corrosive industrial environments (C5-M).

Can ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ be applied directly to rusted surfaces?

Yes! This is one of ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩'s key advantages. The product can be applied directly over existing rust (remove only loose, flaking rust). The formula penetrates the rust and creates a strong chemical bond, stopping the corrosion process and preventing further spread. This saves significant time and surface preparation costs.

What is the cure time before exposure to harsh conditions?

⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ is dry to touch within 2-4 hours at 70°F (21°C). For light handling, you can return to operation within 24 hours. For full exposure to harsh conditions (chemicals, water, salt), it's recommended to wait 7 days for complete cure. High humidity ( 50-85 %) accelerates the curing process.

Is ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ compatible with galvanized steel?

Absolutely! ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ is excellent for galvanized steel and can replace zinc-rich primer. It adheres well to the zinc coating and provides an additional protective layer. This eliminates the need for a multi-layer coating system and significantly simplifies the application process.

What maintenance is required after application?

⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ requires minimal maintenance. An annual visual inspection is recommended to identify mechanical damage (impacts, scratches). Periodic cleaning with water and detergent helps maintain appearance. No repainting or routine touch-ups needed. In case of mechanical damage, it can be easily repaired with an additional coat of ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩.

How does ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ compare to zinc-rich primers?

⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ offers significant advantages: (1) Single-component application without mixing, (2) Can serve as both primer and topcoat in one layer, (3) Excellent adhesion without complex surface prep, (4) Higher flexibility (prevents cracking), (5) Superior chemical resistance, (6) Saves approximately 77% in total costs compared to traditional 3-part system.

What is the cost per square meter for ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ application?

Cost depends on coating thickness and application method. On average, with coverage of 8-10 m²/L and thickness of 8-10 mils dry, the cost is approximately $ 3-5 per m² (including material and labor). While initial cost may be slightly higher than conventional coatings, ROI is achieved within 3-6 months thanks to maintenance savings and long lifespan.

Does ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ meet marine industry standards?

Yes! ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ is DNV (Det Norske Veritas) certified and meets ISO 12944 standard for C5-M corrosive environments (marine/industrial). The product passes ASTM B117 (15,000+ hours salt spray) and is approved for use in ports, vessels, offshore platforms, and coastal infrastructure. Used by navies, commercial ports, and marine industrial facilities worldwide.

Can you paint over ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩?

Yes, ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ serves as an excellent base for additional coatings. After full cure (7 days), almost any type of paint or coating can be applied over it. However, ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ is available in various colors and typically doesn't require an additional finish coat. The coating is UV resistant and maintains its color over time.

What is the shelf life of ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩?

When stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry place, ⁨RUST GRIP®⁩ maintains its quality for up to 3 years. It's important to seal the container tightly after each use to prevent exposure to atmospheric moisture (which initiates the curing process). If a film forms on the surface, remove it and continue using the product. Store at 40-90 °F ( 4-32 °C).
